Two missiles were launched at Yemen’s Aden International Airport by Houthi fighters, marking another escalation in the country’s widening conflict. No immediate casualties were reported after the early-morning attack, according to Aden’s security media office.
Fighting Intensifies in Southern Yemen
The missile attack comes as fighting has intensified along Yemen’s Red Sea coast. Houthi forces, which are backed by Iran, have made advances in several areas in recent weeks, prompting Saudi-supported Yemeni government forces to launch counteroffensives.
With support from Saudi-led coalition airstrikes, Yemeni government forces have reportedly regained control of several strategically important areas near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. The waterway is a crucial route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the wider international shipping network.
Aden Airport Remains Strategically Important
Aden International Airport is one of the main gateways for people living in parts of Yemen that remain outside Houthi control. Because of its importance, any attack on the airport raises concerns about civilian travel and the wider security situation in the region.
Before the Aden attack, the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted a ballistic missile fired toward Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia. According to Saudi state television, the missile threat originated from Houthi-controlled areas, including Sanaa and the provinces of Saada and Amran.
Regional Tensions Continue
The latest developments show how quickly the conflict is spreading across strategic areas of Yemen. Houthi attacks and Saudi-led military operations have increased pressure on both sides, while the Bab al-Mandeb region remains particularly important because of its significance for regional security and international maritime traffic.
A Houthi-linked television report also alleged that Saudi forces carried out an attack in an area between Yemen’s central Ibb and Taiz provinces. The Saudi-led coalition had not immediately confirmed the reported strike.
The latest missile attack therefore adds another layer to an already complex conflict, with continued military operations raising concerns about further escalation in Yemen and the surrounding Middle East.
